How do I identify a program that hangs on reboot/shutdown when it shows "Unknown"?
Is there a shutdown log that might have the info?
Is there a way to shutdown using the terminal that might show the name of the hanging program?
Is there a way to have the GUI give the name and not just say unknown?
Sometimes(rather many times), when I shutdown using the menu option >> Shutdown, the system hangs at a Purple screen with dots. I have waited for 10 mins, but then it becomes clear that i need to do a hard shutdown using power button.
I am using Ubuntu 64 bit AMD edition(12.04.1 LTS) on HP Proliant Microserver(N40L) with OEM hardware.
Hi,
I'm using Mythbuntu 12.04 (although I had the same issue with 11.10 which is why I did a fresh install of 12.04 with db export/import). I have set it up with mythwelcome to shutdown when idle and start up for recordings according to:
http://http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ACPI_Wakeup
For the most part it all works well. However, occassionally the system hangs when shutting down.
I don't know what i did or what happened?
but my ubuntu logs off on clicking shutdown...
running the shutdown or reboot command too doesn't shutdown....
how can i find the log?
all i know is there is a message saying ....
Power_table_CMD wait for 500 sec
and something similar
it gets stuck on Ubuntu Plymouth...
I have to long press the power button on my Laptop to shut it off
My Compaq Presario 2100 will not shutdown, restart, suspend, or hibernate correctly. When I attempt a shutdown or restart, it hangs with a message to the effect of Shutting Down Now, but it never powers off.
I would like to be able to log these messages and present them on this web site for help, but I know of no way to log shutdown messages.
Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 then KDE on top.
I am using ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop (64 bit) for a long time. Few days back there was some issue with power supply and i have to shutdown my desktop using power button in hurry. Now when i am going to shutdown the desktop, the shutdown process starts and ubuntu logo and five dots comes and then it hangs. Can you tell me what went wrong in the situation of mine?
Greetings,
I'm not sure this is the most appropriate subcommunity for this posting, but here goes. Is there a Ubuntu One forum?
Running 12.04 in the Ubuntu One desktop. When I try to shutdown using that option in the "gear" icon in the upper right corner, a small window appears claiming that I have an unknown process running.
My Dell Latitude E5520 will not shutdown correctly. Using the GNOME panel default shutdown method everything goes well and my session ends, however shutdown will not pass the last two shutdown icon indicators on the purple shutdown screen. This is a default 12.04 clean install.
