[ubuntu] Setting up Ubuntu Server

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi there, I have just bought a second hand business PC that I want to use as an Ubuntu Server. The specs of the PC are quite high so it can handle the installation no problem. The advice I need is this: How do I setup the server to be a file and web server? I have a client PC using Ubuntu Desktop where I carryout all my development work in PHP. On this client I have LAMP installed so I can test the pages or sites I have created locally. I want to move all of my files to the PC I intend to use as a server and access the files read/write as normal. Also to be a local web server. (Hardware)

Hi Guys I wanted to develop a kernel for my server. It will work in following way: * ECLIPSE(IDE) process is running on client(local data) w/o actually being installed on client, it is rather installed on server, so all libraries/files are on server * So when client wants to run IDE, it requests server for IDE's process.

What is the best way for me to transfer files between two PC's? I have a laptop with Ubuntu Desktop (12.04) and a local server I'm setting up using Ubuntu Server. I'm used to windows environment where I might typically browse the network via Windows explorer and move files around.

Recently I installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 LTS on WMVare Workstation, that runs on Windows. First of all I installed LAMP, but then the problem was encountered.

I've did everything as I usually did on Ubuntu Server 10.10.

I created a virtual host for my project setup directory with simple mkdir command without sudo.

I have a problem in my mail server installation, I used Ubuntu 12.04.2 Server Edition + Postfix + Courier, using this tutorial : Here

after installation finished i faced a problem with setup mail account on Mozilla Thunderbird mail client that it show problem "Configuration could not be verified --- is the username or password wrong?" & I am sure that i typed it correctly.

P.S.

We have 3 Ubuntu boxes - development server, git server and a webserver and work from a windows xp machine.

Is it possible to work on the development server, stage and manage files to push/pull from the git server, then deploy to the webserver once commited?

Any advice, greatly appreciated.
