[ubuntu] Setting new x-server screen frequency, xconfig

http://ubuntuforums.org – Currently when I attempt to change my screens refresh frequency throught x-servers "server display configuration" menu it's stuck at 60hz and won't allow me to change it to any thing except auto. I'm trying to move it up to at least 75hz. A few weeks ago I tried following one of the guides to change the frequency by editing the xconfig file. I restarted. Ubuntu would not start. And tried reverting to the backup config file I made with the command line with no luck. So I ended up installing a second partition and transferring files over. Pain in the ***. Wit (Hardware)

I tried to start my nvidia driver using nvidia-xconfig and now my screen resolution is stuck to 640x480. That is the only option displayed in System Settings -> Display. My default resolution was 1366x768.

Im very new to the world of Ubuntu/backtrack, which I'm very eager to learn much more!

Ive been hindered by the installation of nvidia drivers. So far i have installed all of the nvidia drivers and the cpu toolkit, but im stuck at the famous no screen error at "startx" command.

My CPU frequency sticks to 800Mhz when restarting my computer. I would like to set the default to be 100%, which is 1.46Ghz. Is there any way to do this? I have an Acer 4720z laptop with an Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310 processor.

i am using ubuntu 12.10 32-bit on my laptop DELL inspiron N4030 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430 Series.

the problem is:

when Laptop on AC adapter, CPU frequency always be the maximum (2.39 GHz), that's make out loud fan, even i try to change that frequency, it returns automatically (to the maximum) as long as the laptop plugged in.

on the other hand ubuntu seems to (automatically) scal

The following Kconfig file says If in doubt, say N. Where should I say N in this config file? I wish to edit this file so that it takes the default parameters.
