wvdial might also be a workaround, if one does not like to downgrade. In my case, I had to unset my PIN on the SIM card first.
Need to dial out from PC to device having modem. device has Gadget serial. SO PC usb can be connected to usb of device and using driver can detect device as serial port. Now need to bypass dial out commands received over gadget serial port on device to modem connected via uart on device.

I am a newbe to Linux. I need help with my "refurbished IBM ThinkCentre M50 Desktop w/installed 56k/modem (dial-up) w/Linux Ubuntu installed". I know "Windows"? I know there is a configuretion window for dial-up and how to do it but, not for Linux. Can someone help or send a manual of less than 30mbs? I would be great-full for any help. Bob
Okay, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.
I bought a USB Extarnal Modem. Whice is controller based, I think thats a hard ware modem correct me if i'm wrong.
Right now I'm on windows and it shows the manufacturer is "Conexant"
The thing is...how would I be able to use this in ubuntu.
As I know winmodems does not work with linux.

am not a programmer so can anyone provide the commands to set the USB ports up so that Gnome PPP can see them?
All it sees is the com ports, my modem is listed as "dev/ttyACM0" and that is not showng up
I am using wvdial to connect to 3G network.
Sample conf is below. I want to add an if clause. If the Serial Number of the device is not my serial number it should not connect. Serial number can be shown by AT+CGSN.
How can I implement such "if ( AT+CGSN == 123456789 ); then" clause using wvdial? Can I?
I have installed hylafax on Ubuntu Server 8.04 with an external USRobotics modem.
Everything is going fine.
I use it almost as a fax2mail gateway.
The fax is behind a PBX.
The fax server receive every fax destinated to the internal fax N.1 (internal number 201)
I would like to make this.
I have other internal fax machines connected to the PBX.
