You need to install lm-sensors, and then run sensors-detect.sudo apt-get install lm-sensors
sudo sensors-detectanswer "yes" (the default) to all the search questions. If no sensors are found, your machine does not support CPU temp. If sensors-detect finds sensors, allow it to add them to your modules. Then reboot.
Psensor is a graphical hardware temperature monitor for Linux.
It can monitor:
the temperature of the motherboard and CPU sensors (using lm-sensors).
the temperature of the NVidia GPUs (using XNVCtrl).
the temperature of the Hard Disk Drives (using hddtemp).
the rotation speed of the fans (using lm-sensors)
Installation
First step is to install lm-sensors:
sudo apt-get install lm-sensors

HelloDoes anyone know how to edit conky to put in lm sensors detect cpu temps?I do not want to use acpi because alot of people reported problems with it, and I'm used to using lm-sensors anywayMost forum posts on the subject put out answers that don't seem to work for me in Statler (the'yre for Ubuntu or other Oses)I already installed lm-sensors (it came with Statler by default, and
Same hardware, newer version of Ubuntu. I used to be able to get hardware temps on my PC in Hardy, but I can't in Karmic. I can't recall if it worked in Intrepid or Jaunty...
I have installed lm-sensors, and have used the command 'sensors-detect'. there is the result:
# sensors-detect revision 5984 (2011-07-10 21:22:53 +0200)
# System: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H61N-USB3
This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need
to load to use lm_sensors most effectively.
Been pulling what little hair I've got left on this for a couple days now. I've installed a second graphics card in my small form factor ThinkCentre M51 and am concerned about what impact this will have on temperatures. So, after reading a bit about system monitoring under Ubuntu I went ahead and installed lm-sensors and the sensors-applet.
There’s an app indicator called indicator-sensors for monitoring hardware temperatures on Ubuntu 12.04 Unity’s panel. The indicator displays the temperatures of CPU, video card, hard disk and also cpu fan speed.
Install indicator-sensors in Ubuntu 12.04
You can install this indicator from the developer Alex Murray’s ppa.
I am trying to run sensors-detect in Debian6 64 bits and I get:
Sorry, no sensors were detected.
