[ubuntu] Scanner - permission to rw usb port

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have an Epson all-in-one printer-scanner so I have installed iscan. However, iscan does not work because it says it cannot authenticate (i.e. get permission) to read-write to /dev/bus/usb/001/xxx where xxx is a number that changes every time I switch on the scanner. I can solve this by doing sudo chmod 777 /dev/bus/usb/001/xxx but i have to look up the number (i.e. xxx) of the file that has appeared in /dev/bus/usb/001/ every time the scanner is switched on. How can I make it give me permission to rw automatically? It does not seem to be in the user management dialogue to give me the rights. Can anyone tell me how. Is there a config file somewhere for usb devices that sets up the default permissions? Why don't other people have this problem? (I am running karmic but I had the same problem in jaunty - so have posted it here.) Thanks (Hardware)

I recently upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and since then I havent gotten my scanner to work. The latest iscan-packages are installed and sane seems to find my scanner but despite that the following error messages appears in xsane and iscan.

Ever since I switched to Ubuntu 12.04 the scanner on my Epson Stylus NX230 won't work. At the same time I started running lUbutntu because the regular version is too fancy for my crappy old computer. The scanner used to work when I had whatever version I had before, but now when I try to scan an image using either Scanner Utility or Simple Scan it says no scanner is connected.

iscan for F17 23 weeks 1 day ago

I have an Epson SX435W Scanner/Printer which works more-or-less flawlessly under F16.

I upgraded to a new laptop and installed F17, and now I can't get iscan to work.

All packages and rpms from the http://www.avasys.jp site are installed and the software runs.

I've encountered problems with the installation of the proprietery iscan-driver for Epson-Scanners. Until openSUSE 11.1 I never had problems. Under openSUSE 11.2 I installed iscan-proprietery-driver and iscan-firmware with Yast. When configuring the scanner with Yast, it always told me, that iscan is not installed.

I have SANE and SANE-scanner installed in my Ubuntu 12.04 box. I have an Epson V500 flatbed scanner, tied by USB to my machine. On my network I also have an HP All-in-One that has scanner functionality. Both are detected by the computer as scanners. I want to always use the Epson scanner but can't find a way to tell SANE-scanner to use the (second listed) Epson scanner.

I got the printer working but I'm having a hard time with the scanner i get this message when i have sane find scanner

I have installed the all in one epson driver and the copy and print functions work fine. I am using a wired usb connection. It wont scan, using simple scan, and after doing the ususal legwork with google and the forums, I installed iscan iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb and iscan-data_1.18.0-1_all.deb. Now I get the alarm 'could not send command to scanner.
