http://ubuntuforums.org – I have an laptop running 12.04 Ubuntu, which is acting as a dedicated NAS. I store all my photo and videos on it etc I use Samba and smb.conf to share to other devices. I can access it and transfer photos etc from my phone and a windows 7 netbook. I get wireless transfer speeds of 2MB/sec on these devices. I bought a new iPad and installed the paid app filebrowser - so I could access the NAS over wireless and copy files or view photos etc. But the transfer speeds are 100KB/sec. No matter what file I transfer I get really slow speeds. I contacted the makers of file browser and they sai (Hardware)

I have very slow LAN transfer speeds over WiFi to my Windows 7 shared folders.

Using AndroidSMB client, I get a max of 500KB/s yet on WIFI WAN I get speed tests in the 30Mbit/s range.

I have a smb share on F17 x64 PC , which serves quite well for my home network over 1GB LAN connection. On Win PCs and other devices I can connect it without any problems.

Lately I have installed F17 on my own PC and tried to access the samba share on the fedora box, I have seen very slow transfer speeds while accessing my files.

I have been experiencing an ongoing problem with my ubuntu install that is driving me crazy. I have a few external usb hard drives hooked up to my PC that are getting very slow transfer speeds. At one point I had windows xp installed on this same PC and my transfer speeds were fine, so I know its not a hardware problem.

I am trying to troubleshoot my home lan because of slow file transfer speed. I have 4 machines that all run ubuntu 12.04 and all experience similar transfer speeds on my network. I transfer a file to a pc sitting 2 feet away at about 3 MB/sec (Samba, nfs). 1GB network card, router supports 1 GB speeds, switch supports 200mb, full duplex on all machines.

I have two laptops,

One is running Ubuntu 12.04 (EXT4) the other is running Windows 7 (NTFS).

I am copying over 40gb of data (one file) from the Ubuntu laptop to the Windows Laptop. (Browse the shared folder on Ubuntu using Windows copy/paste)

But I am getting transfer speeds topping out at ~700kb/s Surely this is not right. I am transferring via wifi on both laptops.

I have ubuntu 12.04 and kde. I notice that a file transfer on a pen drive in windows with the software ExtremeCopy goes to 30/32 MB/s. Here in ubuntu the transfer on the same pen drive is at 10/14 MB/s. Obviously I use dolphin as file manager but maybe it's a problem with transfer file manager I don't know.

As mentioned in the title I tried transferring files between Windows 7 and the samba server running on both Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 but both showed very slow transfer speeds.

Can someone please guide me in the right direction to debug this problem ?

Hello, I have been running an ubuntu 10.10 server in a company for a long time. we basically use it as a file share server with raid.

I've used Samba for years and never had a single issue with it. It always worked as predicted and I was always happy with it. For a small project I was doing I wanted to hook a Macbook to my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop (Toshiba Ultrabook) to transfer a ton of data using a cat5e cable. I set a static IP on both and connected accordingly to the share from the Macbook.
