hello!
as in the title...im restoring a previous back and i am getting this error that stops the whole restoring. is there a way to solve it, or force restoring the rest of the files?
i am using deja vu, the default utility on ubuntu
thanks!
I recently replaced the HDD in my laptop, and re-installed Windows & Ubuntu. Now I want to restore the various virtual machines I had set up on the old HDD, which is mounted in an external USB enclosure. I can read the HDD okay, and the 'bad' spots seemed to be in the Windows partition... but whenever I try to restore the VDI files the copy errors out.
My laptop came with Windows 7 preinstalled, some files (apparently vital windows) was infected by a virus.
My antivirus has moved the infected files to quarantined, and since Windows can no more start.
I installed Ubuntu over it, which renames the partition of mn hard drive "C" to "E".
How can I retrieve the name of my Windows partition after after the changes made by Ubuntu?
Thanks a lot.
I've installed Ubuntu on a PC with Windows 7. Now since I want to make that PC a VPN server under Ubuntu I've made the login require no password (Windows still has a password). This makes it easy for anyone to see my Windows files. Can I make them inaccessible (and not visible) from Ubuntu. Sort of like making Ubuntu and Windows two separate systems with their own files on the same hard drive.
I simply want to carry out backups of my folders/files when they are changed and would like to use my external USB drive as backup storage.
I can do this using Acronis True Image on Windows XP for folders/files (NTFS) that Windows explorer can access but I want to do it for files/folders (ext4) on Ubuntu.
Is there and easy way to do this please using a GUI and not using terminal commands?
Hi,
I have been using Windows XP SP3 for quite a long time. But recently I have been getting quite a lot of BSODs.:(
So I have decided to change my OS to Ubuntu. I have downloaded the 12.04_Live distro and have prepared my USB stick with the ISO using Unetbootin.
I have 4 partitions as described below.
1. C:\ 50 GB - Windows XP is installed in this drive
2. D:\ 100 GB
3. E: \ 150 GB
4.
I desperately need help. Apparently over the past 2 week God hates me and has caused the following: My Windows/Ubuntu Dual Boot machine to fail, and my Hackintosh (OSX on an HP HDX18t) to still be working hard drive wise but will not boot.
I am running Ubuntu 12.04. To backup my files I copy on to a partition on an external usb drive. (The partition is crypted using ecrypt first).
I have found that some large movie files have been corrupted when transferred over.
Up until now I have checked a backup has been done by selecting files in Nautilus and looking at the properties.
I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 7, all of a sudden the HDD is not recognized by Win7. I wanted to backup the data in Win, so I made a Ubuntu 12.04.1 Live CD, and booted from it. I am using Ubuntu without installing it in my laptop.
My problem is that I don’t see the Windows partitions in Ubuntu 12.04.1, b’cos of which I am unable to backup the data.
