When I try to restore data that I did not encrypt, I need to enter an encryption password.
Recently I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.10. In the older version I made a backup without encryption of the /home folder. Under my own user name I never had to enter an encryption password.
Hello, I was exploring Ubuntu and I clicked on Dash. I searched for "Naut..." then I saw 2 applications their mames are "Home Folder" and "Files". Accidently, I transported Files to the Desktop. I've 2 questions which may be unimportant. Sorry for wasting your time.
1. Can someone tell me where were it to restore it?
I amm moving stuff out of a file Server. I am using DFS for that - the Folders are anyway in a DFS tree, so I can set up a replication temporarily, then drop the old Folder. Works nice, EXCEPT for the Folder containing the users home drives. Which, incidentally, is also the one I can not see all files in due to my permissions.
Small Setup.
Id like to include some miscellaneous files in my remix. For instance, id I have file1.txt in "Documents" in my home directory and Pic1.jpg in the "Pictures" folder and I'd like to have them be avaiable in the "Files" folder in the home directory on my remix.
I think the key might be in the %post section of the kickstart file I'm using for configuration.
So, here's the problem that I have with restoring. First, I backed up like everything. So I had place on the external HD for only one copy.
I had to reinstall everything, but I didn't worry because I had a backup. But now, restoring doesn't work and it starts to be annoying.
So, I right click "Restore missing files...". Then I have the popup window from Deja Dup asking where is the backup.
Few people actually know that they can restore files and folders that were accidentally deleted in Windows Vista or Windows 7 by default.
I did some reading and tried a couple things, but can't "force" Deja-Dup to run a full backup. At the moment it will only run incrementals (I'm assuming). The only thing I get in backup folder is 3 small 1KB files (2 archive and a manifest). When I first got Deja-Dup couple weeks back it created a series of larger files on first run.
The filemanager in 12.04 allowed me to open a folder while the other files and folders remained in view. I found that to be really useful. The new filemanager works more like windows where the only way you can see the files in a folder is to click on the folder, replacing the view of the current directory with the contents of the clicked folder.
Long story short, i just accidentally deleted my entire home folder. Thankfully it seems like the hidden files are still there.
I'm not sure, but aren't all of the folders within the home folder (Desktop, Downloads and whatever else is in there) empty by default?
