http://ubuntuforums.org – i use ubuntu 9.10 on my Hp 550 laptop , 160 Gib Hitatchi Hard disk im facing a problem that the disk utility says that the hard disk is failing and have many bad sectors. im trying using Code: sudo fdisk /dev/sda but it says Code: The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 19457. There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in certain setups cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK) Unable to seek on /dev/sda so i have installed an application called gparted , but it can c 149 Gib of Unallocated space , don't know how. Then i have installed GsmartControl and it gives some errors Code: Complete error log: SMART Error Log Version: 1 ATA Error Count: 11 (device log contains only the most recent five errors)     CR = Command Register [HEX]     FR = Features Register [HEX]     SC = Sector Count Register [HEX]     SN = Sector Number Register [HEX]     CL = Cylinder Low Register [HEX]     CH = Cylinder High Register [HEX]     DH = Device/Head Register [HEX]     DC = Device Command Register [HEX]     ER = Error register [HEX]     ST = Status register [HEX] Powered_Up_Time is measured from power on, and printed as DDd+hh:mm:SS.sss where DD=days, hh=hours, mm=minutes, SS=sec, and sss=millisec.
