I managed to install Ubuntu 12.10 with the option acpi=off, as it didn't work without.
Now it boots only with this option. Is it possible to solve the problem for the need of this option? With this option it is booting is quite slow.
Could it be related to the Nvidia GeForce GT 520M card I have with Optimus technology?

Sorry, I know there are dozens of threads titled "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system," but none of them answered my question. Most of them centered around nVidia drivers.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an Acer Aspire AM3970. I can't for the life of me get the wireless to work.
I have installed newest Nvidia drivers (from their site with the .run file) on my laptop with Nvidia Geroce 420M.
After some time I decided to try out open source drivers there I went to System Settings -> Software Sources -> Additional drivers and clicked Open source drivers and applied the changes.
After a reboot I have had no Unity panel shown when I logged into the system.
To install the drivers simply click:
System > Administration > Hardware Drivers
and enable/disable the recommended/enabled version.
I installed OpenSuse Gnome version 64 bit on a HP laptop DV7 Intel Dual Core with nVidia 9600 GM card
All went well, until after I had installed the nVidia drivers from this page: NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE
I have installed ubuntu on my laptop, but i am having problems with the hdmi port. It doesnt seem to exist.
I have a nvidia gt 415m graphic card and a core i5 which would point at a problem with optimus technology, so i tried to install the new nvidia driver 319, which should help with this problem.
Desktop does not shows when i installed nvidia experimental drivers, tried nvidia simple proprietary drivers, did not work as well
here is how it looks, this is not croped or any thing this is how it looks even rezolution is changed

Hi.
I've seen this problem, or similar, been posted on the forum earlier. I also know that is not a good line to start a new thread with.
Laptop: HP Pavillion tx1020, broadcom 4312, nVidia gf go 6150 graphics.
OS: Clean installed Ubuntu 9.10, downloaded yesterday.
