I'm running Windows XP with all the latest patches.
I downloaded Wubi to my computer, installed it and ran wubi. Wubi downloaded the Ubuntu (I assume it was the 12.10 release) file and extracted the Ubuntu files. Next, it asked to restart the computer.
I've installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS as a wubi installation in Windows 7, its running fairly well.
will Wubi installation cause any problem, will I be able to access any files created in wubi Ubuntu in windows 7?
I did a fresh installation of XP SP3 on an IBM ThinkPad T40, 512 MB of RAM, Pentium M 1.5 GHz processor. I ran the wubi executable for 12.10 and let it download and unpack the image. When it said I needed to reboot the computer to complete the installation, I let Wubi restart it. During the reboot, it never came up to the boot menu and just booted into windows.
Can I use a Windows 7 system restore disc and system image disc (of Windows drive C) to restore WUBI if my computer crashes? I use Deja Dup for backups, and have a CD of the WUBI .iso installation file?
I don't want to run Ubuntu in a separate partition because I find it convenient to run Ubuntu as a WUBI because I can use Windows drivers etc.
Thanks for any advice.
All,
I'm posting from work, so I'm not in front of my home PC right now--but I do have a wubi question (since I'm about to try using wubi to install Ubuntu on a computer here at work (that computer has no optical drive and I have no thumb drive to hand, thus the need for wubi), and depending on outcome I'll try it at home):
Specifically, should I devote a separate drive to Ubuntu, or should
I have an HPE h8-1360t with dual boot windows 8 and windows 7. I just now downloaded and installed wubi. Now when I try to boot ubuntu for the first time I get "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings and click next.

I am in a very strange situation and need some help: I installed Ubuntu 11.10 through Wubi a while back so that I can use it alongside Windows 7. I was running out of space on my disk when trying to install applications.
I'm using Windows 8 (32bit) customer preview and installing WUBI Ubuntu 12,04.1.
I down loaded 32 bit installer from ubuntu dot com, The wubi installer says AMD 64 xt.
I had a previous 12,04 install and in the terminal typed in uname -a, it say's 64 bit.
I also opened detail from the system and it read 64 bit system.
Hello!
I am brand-spanking-new at using any form of linux and, after accidently deleting my windows partition from inside wubi, reformatting my little Aspire One's hard-drive, and re-installing windows and wubi, I am nearly ready to migrate my wubi into its own partition.
