[ubuntu] Problem in ubuntu 12.04

I'm trying to set up a USB Fax Modem in Ubuntu through Virtual Box but I'm not sure how to do so. My goal is to be able to dial out to a phone and have the phone ring.

Host OS = Mac OS X Virtual Box Guest OS = Ubuntu 12.04 56k USB Fax/Modem = Lenovo 43R1786 (43R1815) by Conexant

It's an old-school fax/modem that I'm trying to plug into a phone line, not a dsl modem.

I have installed Windows7 and ubuntu 12.04 in dual boot mode. after installing i have connected my MTS modem(dial up modem) in ubuntu. It worked finely. Wen I booted my laptop in Windows 7 mode,modem couldnt connect and no website could open. What can I do to alleviate the situation?

The following is the situation: Laptop: Lenovo X200 Tablet Dual boot with Windows 7 and ubuntu 12.04 ethernet works perfectly on windows 7. Works sporadically on ubuntu 12.04. Tried getting a solution on IRC channel. No progress on that front either.

I was suggested to live boot Ubuntu 12.10 to check if ethernet is working but the monitor blanks in the process and gets stuck.

hi to all I love ubuntu and dont want windows anyway but my big problem is dialup internet i install a cxt driver for it but its speed is 14.4 and awfull and force me to use windows to connect to net please help me if there is a solve for it to full speed modem. my os is ubuntu 9.04 my modem is cxt thanks a lot

I use a USB EDGE modem for connecting internet in XP & Linux. Previously in Ubuntu it was detected as Prolific pl2303 converter and with WVDIAL I used internet without any problem. Recently I upgraded to 12.04 and my modem just stop working. lsusb shows the device and dmesg confirms that it is attached to ttyUSB0 but when I give command wvdial then nothing happens.

Every time I restart my modem, I come across this problem: the modem is shown connected but no internet is available. ...

Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently(eariler it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after ubuntu in 5 minutes!!).

I have purchased new vodafone usb modem (ZTE K3770-z) and tried to connect it with ubuntu 11.04. But it is not automatically detected on ubuntu.

Hello all, my name is John and I am currently living in china but I'm from Virginia, I have just installed Ubuntu on my HP laptop and I am having a problem with the internet connection. At work there is a wireless connection that the computer will connect to with no problem but at home i have a Modem/Wireless route unit I'm guessing that's called a mini PPPOE?
