I'm using Ubuntu Server 11.10 and the hard drives in my (md) raid-5 array are constantly working (I can hear them crunching) when I mount them. Soon after I unmount them, they stop.
Hi
No longer able to access my raid, not sure what caused this, but im not able to start it either, help!

I have a 4x 2tb raid 5 mdadm array which I had begun to grow onto a 5th disk.
~# mdadm --add /dev/md1 /dev/sdb
~# mdadm --grow /dev/md1 --raid-devices=5
midway through the grow I recieved this in an email;
A Fail event had been detected on md device /dev/md/fubox:1.
It could be related to component device /dev/sdf.
Faithfully yours, etc.
P.S.
My Raid 5 array (4 1tb Disks WD10EARS) had was showing as degraded.
I looked and one of the disks wasnt installed, so i re-added it with the mdadm add command.
the array is now showing as (null)Array , but cant be mounted
if i run:
root@warren-P5K-E:/home/warren# sudo mdadm --misc --detail /dev/md0
I get:
mdadm: cannot open /dev/md0: No such file or directory
and running:
root@warren-P5K-
My Mdadm Raid5 array of 4 drives failed during synchronization after replacement of one failed drive. It threw me to RamFS where after a while I couldn't mount the array any more (don't know what I did...
I don't know why, but I have big trouble with speed of my raid.
I have 4x WD RE4 7200RPM 500GB. Size of RAID 5 is 1000GB.
Today I'm in a very bad place. A production raid array went down. The controller failed. After unmounting the file systems and killing all processes, I changed the hardware controller.
I'm having a problem with one of my hard drives as I have been receiving this email for the past few days.
Code:
"A DegradedArray event had been detected on md device /dev/md127."
I decided to Google further and looked into the contents of my mdstat file, this is the output:
Code:
Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10]
