[ubuntu] Printer/scanner Brother DCP-197C

http://ubuntuforums.org – Just installed Ubuntu 12.04. Have a Brother DCP-197C printer/scanner. Any idea how I can get it working? Have tried the Printer thing in Settings with no success at all. Have also tried looking at drivers from the Brother website only to be told by Ubuntu Software Centre that the driver is of poor quality and might damage my system. The printer is almost brand new and has worked very recently on a windows vista installation. (Hardware)

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 and have just manged to install the printer function for a Brother DCP-197C from the "tool" on their website. Unfortunately no such tool for the scanner function exists and despite my no doubt clumsy, yet persistent attempts, I have not manged to get the scanner function going.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10, and when I upgraded to 11.10, somehow I lost the printer. I've read that this model is supported (Brother HL-2040), but it doesn't work, so I'm resorting to doing it the way I had to install it to my earlier version of Ubuntu. I went to the Brother website and downloaded the cups driver and the Brother driver for my printer and installed them using apt-get install.

I have an old Brother all-in-one printer/scanner/fax. I have installed the printer side and it is working fine. I have installed the brscan2 for the scanner side but can not get it running.

I need help with installing my brother printer model: MFC-J270W. I found all of the required Linux drivers for this printer from the Brother website, I just need guidance on how to install this via terminal. I tried on my own but failed. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I recently switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 12 . I have a Brother MFC465CN all in one attached to the network . I have installed the drivers per instructions on Brother site . The printer works , and "brsaneconfig2 -q" shows :

brsaneconfig2 -q shows up the scanner Xsane shows the scanner to choose, but after it sits there for a minute, I get:
