http://ubuntuforums.org – I understand that it is not possible to add applets to the top menu in 11.04, 11.10 and 12.04. I use the character pallet a lot, it is always in sight and when I want a foreign currency character I click it once and then paste where I am working. How do people accomplish this with releases after 10.10? Similarly there is an applet to display local weather at a glance. How to people see the weather at a glance (without having conky or similar windows of information on the desktop)? (Hardware)

In Ubuntu 12.04, one of the Gnome 2 applets that I miss the most is the Gnome Weather Report applet.

I like the fact that this applet provides: (a) a screen with a summary of current local weather conditions, (b) a separate screen that displays the forecasts of the pertinent weather office (in my case, the U.S.

I'm currently a user of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using the weather applet. I was wondering if the same applet will be available for Unity 12.04. Since Unity's existence with 11.04 & 11.10, you had to log into Gnome Classic to be able to add / use the applet. However I prefer Unity.

Installed Ubuntu 12.10 yesterday, then installed ubuntu-gnome-desktop, weather applet shows weather in New York (I'm in Amsterdam). When I try to modify it's preferences, applet dies with <<"Weather Report" has quit unexpectedly>> error.

How can I modify weather applet preferences?

I currently use the Character Palette panel applet in Ubuntu 10.04 (old gnome) to insert scientific symbols and Greek letters into documents. I'm thinking about upgrading, possibly to Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.

Had no issues with this plasmoid, until managed to lose plasma settings, helping someone in a thread on here.

Now, BBC have changed their site on 7th, and I can (likely as result) not re-configure the applet, search part fails.
