http://www.maximumpc.com – An ARM-based netbook running Ubuntu could be in your future with the newest version of  Ubuntu Netbook Edition. Much like Windows, the popular Linux distro did not previously have support for ARM processors. This meant you’d only see Ubuntu on Atom-based netbooks, a category dominated by Windows. With the anticipated flood of ARM packing “smartbooks” expected to materialize, the devs got to work rewriting Ubuntu. According to Ubuntu’s Jamie Bennet, the problem was that Ubuntu Netbook Edition required 3D graphics drivers that didn’t exist for ARM chips. They got around this by employing 2D Enlightenment Foundation Libraries to fake a 3D interface. We’re hearing that you won’t be able to tell the difference in the interface.  If true, that’s a big win for smartbooks and Ubuntu. This may be the space that Ubuntu specifically, and Linux in general, can succeed in. Windows is completely locked out of the smartbook game until such time as Redmond gets around to adding ARM support. Don’t expect that to happen anytime soon. Ubuntu Netbook Edition (UNE) is a ‘remix’ of the standard Ubuntu Desktop release, enabling you to work better on devices with small screens, such as netbooks and sub-notebooks. You have access to all the same applications any Ubuntu user has, plus some enhancements to the user interface.

Web Upd8: "Note that the GNOME panel is locked in Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04 so you need to unlock it. As far as I know, this will only work if you installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition, not if you installed Ubuntu desktop and then installed the netbook interface."

Hello! I am new to the linux community (And linux in general).

I have recently formatted my Acer Aspire One AOD250 Netbook from Windows XP and Installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition. However, when I attempt to boot Ubuntu, nothing happens! And my Netbook screams in terror every time I press a key (Meaning, it beeps loudly). If anyone can help that would be great...

Canonical demonstrated its first fast-boot version of Ubuntu, said to launch a running browser in less than 10 seconds. The Ubuntu Light distro employs a new netbook- and tablet-oriented desktop environment called Unity that will also drive the Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, due in October....

Hi, I have asked this question before but have not received an answer.

I have a netbook (Asus EeePC Seashell series 1015CX) and I wanted to put Ubuntu on it. However once I have made a Bootable USB and used the Test Mode the graphics that were present were unsatisfactory. I believe that my netbook has integrated graphics (I am not an expert).

I have had ubuntu on my netbook for a while now but i really need windows back on my netbook for one of my classes. I have no idea how to take it off. Every way i have seen so far that takes it off my netbook seems to lead me to another problem. My netbook cant read CD's because there is no CD drive.i just bought windows 7 but all it came with is a code. I really need help.
