I use multi-boot (dual-boot) to install more than one copy of Ubuntu onto a drive. This serves different purposes with respect to managing changes to the base operating system. Since both instances of the operating system are used to process the same data I have created additional partitions just for that purpose.
I've installed Virtual Box and am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 from a downloaded ISO. Everything is going fine but I come to a choice that says no operating system is dectected on this machine, what would you like to do?

Hi, My computer is a Lenovo x120e AMD 64. I have been running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS since April with no significant problems. Today, I installed recommended security updates which is something I do regularly. The system required restart to complete the updates and so I restarted the computer. Upon restart, I now get the error message "Operating System not found".

Please bare with me, I am very new to open source and have never used uBuntu before and as such may be asking basic questions, which I need to understand before preparing to download uBuntu.
I have an old laptop, that I wish to rejuvinate, and I need to completely wipe the hard drive as well as reformat it and load a new Operating System.

My windows vista crashed and wouldn't accept a retrieval so I installed ubuntu 12.04 that I had on disk. I keep getting a message 'Disk Utility' A hard disk is failing. :mad: (Running Ubuntu off a 'CD')
I have two drives in my system drive 'C' the main drive and drive 'D' how do I format them so as I can install Ubuntu permanently? :D

I want to install 12.04 on one hard disk and Windows 7 on another.
Windows 7 is set already installed on one hard disk, but when I try to boot
to it I get a "grub rescue" prompt and I don't know what to do with that.
I installed 12.04 to the other drive and again I got the grub rescue prompt
when I restarted the system to complete the installation.
i have an hp pavillion dv6000 laptop. it has no operating system on it. So origionally I was going to download ubuntu 12.04 the latest version but it said I didnt have enough space for it. So I downloaded ubuntu version 10.04 which i had to download onto a blank disk as an iso image from another laptop. i put the disk in and when i come to the partion page its blank..
