Hi,
I am attempting to install Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit desktop from the install ISO on a USB stick to an HP 8540w laptop. The installer boots and shows the purple ubuntu splash screen with the loading progress indicator.
I have a new computer and tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) but the installation failed.
Been at it for 4 hours trying to get it to work, looked at numerous complaints about crashes in hopes of solution non worked, really really frustrated.
At the login screen, the only thing i can move for the first 10 seconds is the mouse, everything else is frozen and i cant click on any of it.
So I know this has been posted a few times, I have searched and tried options but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install my video card drivers.
Where I stand now: Fresh install of 12.04 with default nouveau drivers
What I have: GF nvidia 8500GT (amd) / 2x 23 inch monitors. one is rotated landscape*
using nouveau i get weird issues like screen breaks.
2 machines; one laptop with Intel graphics, one desktop with nvidia graphics.
Live cd boots fine in the laptop but displays weird graphical glitches when attempting to boot with nvidia machine.
Conclude that there must be a problem with nvidia graphics right now.
Tried nomodeset but only gets as far as login screen then freezes in low graphics mode.
Have had problems with every new ite
When I try Ubuntu without installing only "nomodeset" works, otherwise the display is just garbled.
Now I installed 12.10 on a partition, when I let it boot up it comes up with noveau failed to idle channel 2/3.
I had to update grub manually and now there is no option for "safe mode".
Greetings,
i have bought a Dell N5110
it has display of Intel but GPU shows up of Nvidia, its not switchable, as GPU is only Nvidia GT 525M
i can detect both in lspci, by default Ubuntu 12.04 take nice care of Display, Jotkey don't detect Nvidia Graphics so can't install drivers for 3D.
can anyone help me on this ?
Hello,
I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS or 11.10 (64bit versions). I have a Geforce 580GTX graphics card. When I just install the system normally and boot it up it will freeze almost instantly at the login screen. Sometimes I manage to push F2+Alt+Ctrl in time and can read "GPU Lockup - switching to software fbcon".
I had took this installation into my hands as a beginner and failed to keep track of my user name and pass word due to other computer complications and not using paper.
I was given a installation disk version 9.4 if i do recall
Fully installed over winXP
