I am using ubuntu11.10 64 bit version . while checking the user account i have changed my admin user as an standard user. As aresult there is no more admin user. and here the problem begins . whereever authentication is needed it is asking for admin password .
New install of 12.04.1 and the user established during install cannot login.
I was able to create an new user by entering the system as guest. Ubuntu accepted the sudo password of the first user to establish the new user; but I cannot login as the user established during install. The newly created user does have admin permission and I can login using that user and do sudo stuff.
I did a manual update of my nvidia geforce 560 card from 304 to 310. The display was sporadically going blank for a few seconds, so I thought a driver update would resolve that issue. Everything went well, except now when I log in as my normal self, the login screen goes blank like it is trying to log me into my normal environment, and poof, I'm back at the login screen.

Hi,
I have installed ubuntu 12.04 on VMWARE Workstation. Today I performed some upgrade on ubuntu to install Oracle 11g on it. After installing updates, I restarted it. Since then I am not able to login to ubuntu.
Admin user ID of ubuntu is ubuntu1204.
OK, I just upgraded & @ 1st wasn't sure if I'd like the new layout.
Seems cool, though...I'm gettin familiar now.
However, I do not like the fact that my computer can be turned on and logged into on guest account.
Can I change this to where an admin has to login to 'grant' access to Guest, like before in 10.04 LTS?
If so, how?
Thanks
I DO WANT:
To be able to select a guest session from the user menu when logged in to my administrator account in case someone needs to use my computer.
I DO NOT WANT
Someone to be able to turn on my computer and login to a guest session
I have heard of a method where one edits /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to include allow-guest=false (then restarting lightdm)
The problem with that method is that
Hi,
I am running 12.04 on my laptop- which has been working fine. This morning, the laptop ran out of battery and suspended. When I brought it backup it would only allow a guest login.
I rebooted - and all I can login as is guest.
From guest I can su to my normal username ok.
My userid is 1459094701 (it's an ldap login).
Any ideas on how to fix?
Cheers,
Ian.
