I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working.
Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04

Hey guys,
I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working.
Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04
I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880".
I've searched the sound threads, but haven't found a solution. OpenSUSE 11.2 64, Audigy 4 sound card, analog stereo speakers. There is no sound at startup, I have to use alsamixer and disable the "S/PDIF Optical Raw" setting, then sound works fine for the rest of my session. How do I save this? I've tried alsactl store as root, but it doesn't save it.
I recently built a new system using an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard that has Intel HD Audio on-board. Sound from my computer worked just fine immediately after installing Fedora 12.
On a freshly installed lubuntu quantal ppc I have no alsamixer in terminal. I have reinstalled alsa-utils package and ran the command "sudo rm /etc/modrpobe.d/blacklist.local.conf" which did the trick in 12.04. I still have no sound or audio icon on taskbar, but alsamixer showed up in terminal for a while with a message; "this sound device does not have any controls".

I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Lenovo Y530 in a separate partition along with Vista.
Now the problem is that there is no sound if I am using Ubuntu, Vista is fine. I checked many websites but no solution helped.

Ok Ubuntu Forums peeps, I am hoping the collective knowledge of these forums defeats my googling and helps solve me infuriating sound problem. First off here's the system skinny:
Lenovo IdeaPad S9e
running Ubuntu 9.04 with 2.6.28 generic kernel
Sound Module: snd-hda-intel
Sound Hardware: -Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
Hi all,
After upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 I'm unable to play any audio on my laptop.
