[ubuntu] No Sound 12.04

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, Ive tried IRC, google, searching the fourms, etc. And nothing seams to be working for me. Im getting pretty frustrated so this is my last resort before I pass out on my keyboard :|. Anyway, I dont have any sound on my new Ubuntu Minimal installation, I do have alsa and pulseaudio installed (and I belive correctly, I have unmuted channels and it sees and recognizes my sound card) but I dont have any sound. Hi, I just installed ubuntu on my Mac desktop as a dual boot and there is no sound when i boot the ubuntu partition. The volume and sound preferences are set correctly. The sound card is also recognized. Any ideas or help? Thanks!

Hey guys,

I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working.

Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04

I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880".

I had the same sort of problem a week or so ago but when I did the alsa update thing I lost sound altogether for days, eventually got it working again and the right speaker went quiet so I clicked on the gnome alsa mixer I keep in the launcher and the sound in the right speaker reappeared for a while but then died.

Hi! Sound was working perfect. i run OpenSUSE 11.2 w/KDE 4.3.4 Its a laptop Dell Latitude D830. lspci show: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)

I ran lspci | grep Audio

I've searched the forums and added the following line to alsa.conf

macbook air sound

options snd-hda-intel model=mbp3

Rebooted and no sound!

I'm running single boot ubuntu 12.10 with 64 bit kernek.

speakers and microphone do not work

Here's a clue:⋯$ aplay -l aplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...⋯$ aplay -L null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) pulse PulseAudio Sound Server default Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)Yet there are three sound devices in the system.

After Installation I Installed first Pulseaudio, then ALSA, but still I have no sound. Arch is up to date. I checked sound in Mint, so it isn't hardware problem.Drivers seem to be ok, I also unmuted all channels in alsamixer. speaker-test doesn't produce any noise. I have no idea why it doesn't work.
