When I boot Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB drive, I am unable to get sound to output through my TV speakers while having my machine connected via HDMI cable. Using Windows 7, the sound switches from the computer speakers to the TV speakers without a problem.
I have a Nvidia Geforce 310M.
I installed 11.10 ubuntu on clean install (I had 10.04 earlier but I wanted the newer version) last night and updated it. But now my ubuntu has no sound. I tried to go to sound settings to check sound output devices, but there is not any devices.
For my computer, I am running Ubuntu 11.10 along side with Windows Vista. Ubuntu is 64-bit version.
Hello, this is driving me insane. I get no sound at all, after a long and epic battle over sound in Skype. The only problem I used to have with sound is the loss of it on system resume, but this was fixable by sudo alsa-utils force-reload. Then I installed Skype...
I have a computer running 12.04 LTS and I have only ever downloaded 12.04 on this PC (I had PuppyLinux but it was from a live CD, and Windows XP Home but it was not activated.)
So when I hit the sound options from the top panel, the only sound option I get for output (to speakers/headphones etc) is the dummy output and I have a soundcard (embedded to the motherboard) and Ubuntu does not pick up
Greetings forum.
As the title alludes to, I am using Linux Lite 1.0.4 and I am having problems getting the sound to work properly.
My sound card is a PCI - "Creative Labs, Sound Blaster Live 5.1" surround sound card, and the problem is, I cannot get sound from anything other than the front speakers.
I have tried adjusting the options in the sound preferences - Menu> Multimedia>
I used one of the help guides for establishing hdmi sound here

and also installed pulseaudio volume control. I can see the hdmi sound which would come out of my tv speakers yet isn't. In PulseAudio, the sound bar pulses which shows sound activity. The picture is great. The sound is no longer sent out of the built in speakers. My TV is not muted.
I am running ubuntu 12.04 on HPDV6T-2000. I partitioned my drive so my root is on 20gb and /home is on rest. I created own distribution using remastersys to protect /home folder from moving/deleting every time i reinstall.
Everything was fine until yesterday. I had sound coming through my speakers, headphones and bluetooth.
It's been two days I have tried to make this work. I have 3 sound output : regular audio jack from my soundcard, USB MOTU soundcard, USB Logitech speakers. The latter two seem not to be detected at all. The first seems to be detected but still no sound. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PulseAudio and AlsaMixer according to some tip on a blog but it did not work either.
I just downloaded the latest Crunchbang version and everything work fine till I noticed no sound was coming out of my speakers.I have checked the speaker to see if they are plugged in correctly and there is nothing wrong there which means its a software issue.I checked with the mixer and all the volumes are up and still no sound,I don't get any error and I still go online and watch videos but
