Hello, I'm on a dell inspiron 1520 laptop, and all of a sudden the sound has stopped working. I tried repeatedly restarting, and the startup sound plays on the logon screen, but this is the only sound that will play.
I'm sure this is not due to it being muted, or other sound settings.
I was sick of my windows xp computer, so I upgraded to Ubuntu. I know NOTHING about Ubuntu, I have been with windows all my life. For some reason, my sound is not working... I have never heard sound come from the new Ubuntu OS on my PC. I think it may be the sound driver. How do I update my sound card driver? OR get my sound to work? I can provide as much information as you need, please help.
First i installed Ubuntu 12.10 alongside Windows 7. Then my sound didnt work. So i searched the forums and google.. and tried ALOT of things.
Then i reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10, no Luck.
Then i installed Mint, no Luck
Then i installed Ubuntu 10.04 no Luck.
Atm i have Windows 7 installed, works fine, and Ubuntu 10.04. With no sound.
I have an Msi P67a-c43.
Okay, I've already solved this but it was an odd problem.
Before triggering the upgrade to 11.10, my sound was working fine. Never actually had a sound issue before with Ubuntu/Xubuntu. Speakers were still working I checked them first. Built-in sound card was still enabled in the bios. From there I moved onto the standard tests to see where the problem was.
I upgraded to the latest ubuntu version, karmic cola and every since I have had trouble with my sound. I have a Toshiba Tecra and my sound worked with the last version of ubuntu but every since I upgraded the sound has been glitchy. It started with just having trouble when I let it hibernate.
Sound was working for a while, but when I tried to listen to music today there was no sound. In the sound settings there shows no drivers at all, not even a dummy output. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
