[ubuntu] No Internet: need help reading post

http://ubuntuforums.org – My wireless internet capabilities are completely fine on windows but cannot connect when using Ubuntu. Namely that after installing Ubuntu 12.04 and going to log in, I am met with a frozen slate of a desktop in which nothing loads (at longest I've sat for 30 minutes, reading, whilst nothing changes) and only the mouse moves.

Its not a blank screen, its the desktop that one is normally greeted with, just with nothing loaded.

For a brief amount of time Linux did rule a small segment of the Linux Industry, the Netbooks. ASUS, ACER, MSI and many others had a favour of their netbook in the market sporting an Intel Atom processor and running one of their own customised versions of Linux.

I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10 with a D-Link WUA-1340 (Supported - last on list) USB wireless adapter, through which I would like to set up a wireless network for internet connection sharing at home.

I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a Thinkpad x120e that was running Windows 7. All I get is "Operating System not found" when I boot.
