Post title explains it all, here is more info.
I have a server with 3 hard disks, here is the layout:
hard disk 1: /boot and swap partition (DEAD)
hard disk 2: raid1 member
hard disk 3: raid1 member
I installed the boot parition on a separate hard disk because I read somewhere that it was not advised to put the /boot partition inside a software RAID array (which is what I am currently u
I have an old hard disk drive (the ribbon one) that I see using usb has a boot partition but don't see anything else.
So, I thought to try to boot up the the disk (which is running legacy grub) over usb from grub2 to check it out.
But, google has failed me.
My machine has 2 separate physical disks, one for each OS. Windows (sda) and Ubuntu Linux (sdb). My Windows disk had "Vista Business x64" and the linux disk has Ubuntu 12.04. I recently upgraded Vista to "Win 7 Pro x64" and as expected, it screwed with the MBR and GRUB was not coming up at boot up time.
Hello all..:D
I have a good Redhat 9 install on my hard drive.
But I need to use this install on another computer.
So I formatted an USB flash drive as ext3, installed grub in it and copied my existing / filesystem on the hard drive to the USB flash drive.
For testing the install, I disabled my hard drive, floppy drive and CDROM drive in the BIOS setup.
Hello,
In terms of hard disk failure when using raid 1 setup,
how important is to use one of the following (example) partition setups not to run in "GRUB hard disk error" if one of the disks fails.
Which method is prefered? To make "boot" partition or not?
1st:
* /boot 100 MB
* /swap 1GB

Today’s tip is once again using Disk Usage Analyzer that comes with Linux Mint and it is giving Windows XP another helping hand.
Hi, I created a installation disk on a usb. The installation looks fine. But when I remove usb and restart computer I get : ERROR : No boot disk has been detected or the disk had failed.
When I press F12 then I get : Please select boot device : UEFI : ST1000DM003-1CH162
If I leave the usb connected can choose to use it to reinstall or try it out.
That is what I've done to run boot-repair.
