I tried to set up NFSv4 with idmapd between two Debian/lenny installations. On the client, the user "xyz" has the UID 501 and on the server "1000". Changing UIDs and setting up NIS is not possible, Kerberos unwanted.
but I'm stumped...please help
I have a file like this.......
1000 1 34
1000 10 34
1000 11 35
1000 20 35
1000 21 36
1000 30 36
2000 1 34
2000 10 34
which I would like printed out as 40 lines
1000 1 34
1000 2 34
1000 3 34
1000 4 34
1000 5 34
1000 6 34
1000 7 34
1000 8 34
1000 9 34
1000 10 34
1000 11 35
1000 12 35
1000 1
Whacking my head on the keyboard over this one, hopefully someone can give some insight. Been googleling all over but no solutions work. Here goes:
I have a home network so kereberos and ldap would be overkill. I have the same username on the client and server but of course different uids. Both machines are Fedora 18 running nfsv4.
I am accessing a samba share on an Buffalo Terastation from 10.04. Mounting the share from the desktop (gvfs) and using smbclient works fine, all characters are displayed correctly. However, when I do a permanent mount all 8-bit characters show up as "?" and I get "invalid encoding" errors from the desktop file manager.
Hi ALL
I have a script where in i need to check for several values in if conditons but when i execute the script it throws error such as "TOO MANY ARGUMENTS"
Code:

I've setup an NFSv4 server (Debian) and client (Ubuntu/Mythbuntu). It seems that uid username mapping is working nicely out-of-the-box (I get correct usernames on ls -l if the usernames match between the two boxes, even if the uids don't), but ACLs are not working.
Hi all,
I am trying to set up a print and file server for my home network using Ubuntu Server. The file server part of the task seems to working well. I can see the shared directories from my Macbook and my wife's Windows Laptop. I am stuck on the printer setup, though.
I have an HP Photosmart printer connected to the Ubuntu Server machine via USB cable.
I've just converted a server from Fedora 14 to Ubuntu 12.04. "Converted" of course means a clean install.
I'm now trying to get all of the services back up and running and have some working pretty quickly, but I'm stymied on getting automount to mount work with a local directory.
I Installed 12.04 in July, worked with the office printer perfectly. tried to print today and it wont.
in the printer settings dialog it says:
Quote:
printing service not available.
