[ubuntu] New install with dualboot and virtualbox

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello. When I learned of how Windows 8 was going to be, it got me thinking, its a good idea to just move to Ubuntu. So in the future, I want to buy a new computer, and install Ubuntu/windows 8 dualboot with Ubuntu as default. More, I want some form of virtualbox, (or whatever its called) on both, that can run the other. So what I need answered(listed by priority): Is this possible? Is it a good idea? How do I do it? Will it work as I can expect? What sort of WINE and/or related programs can I use to play games, and programs to limit the use of Windows? (Hardware)

I just switched from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) and I would like to run a program called LS-PrePost 3.2 in Ubuntu.

Hi, im trying to install Ubuntu on my computer. I have already a windows on my computer, trying to install Ubuntu on a new SSD harddrive. Im not getting GRUB to work, windows boot fine but if i change boot priority to my Ubuntu disk nothing happens.

I've been using Windows for years now and now am interested to use Ubuntu 12.04. So I'm asking whether Windows-based games/programs will work. I'm using Windows 8 now and will switch to Ubuntu when I get a new computer or Windows 8. Want to download and install Bandicam, then install Slender.

I recently got a pre-installed Windows 8 system. I wish to dual boot it with ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS but after reading the thread, I'm doubtful of the idea. I can do the stated procedure but i don't want to spoil the pre-installed Windows 8, i am scared that i might accidentally harm my system.

Now, what i really meant to ask is if running ubuntu on VirtualBox is a good idea?

I read the all of the information I could find on wine, and it wasn't very much (having issues with the search feature of the forum).

I understand that the idea behind it is to make it so that you can install windows programs, and have them run on ubuntu.

I am installing Windows 7 today with Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 as a VirtualBox guest. Can Ubuntu (as a guest) play 2D videos within VirtualBox? Is there anything I need to install or enable?

I remember Windows 7 as a VirtualBox guest can play videos, but I don't remember how good a quality they were.

Hopefully someone out there knows what todo.

I have always been a big fan of Ubuntu. I used to use it on my desktop computer here at work until I needed a Windows environment for the software that I now have to use.

I wish to install Ubuntu at home but there is a small problem, one that I know you experts would be able to help me out with.
