hi,
Here is the short of it, I had fedora 17 up and running and had some motherboard issues. Had to change motherboard and the video card but used the same disk. Brought up fedora loaded the nvidia driver for the nvidia card and all was well. Used that for a while and now repaired my motherboard that has an on board video.
I'm new to askubuntu and I have a question that I cant seem to find an answer for. I may be getting a ati radeon 9800 pro (unless some one can recommend me a better card) I would like to know if the card has good drivers on Ubuntu 12.04 because my older card doesn't have proprietary drivers in 12.04 but they were in my previous OS 11.10.
I want to get a new laptop with a decent graphics card. I don't care that nVidia's drivers are closed source as long as they're good. I've heard that ATI drivers are buggier and I was wondering which card would be best. I have options like GT 240M, GT 320M, Radeon HD 4670. In theory I think 4670 is fastest, but if it is going to cause computer bugs it's not what I want. So my question is...
Hello UF, I have a strange issue here that I am having trouble solving.
Ubuntu 11:10
ATI Technologies Inc M96 [Mobility Radeon HD 4650]
I installed Ubuntu on my laptop with an ati video card which has an HDMI output. Using the open(default) video drivers and the additional restricted drivers I have swapping issues.
So I'm not a total noob at ubuntu, but this feels like a noob question. I recently installed 12.10 on my desktop and I can't run minecraft anymore, it's just a black screen. I assume this is a video driver issue.
I got a new video card (Nvidia Galaxy Geforce 9500 gt) and 2 gigs of ram on black friday, and have been having some issues since installed. I would be doing something, playing wow, checking out facebook, anything, and i would randomly crash. Getting a blue screen which i never have time to figure out what it all means. I reverted to the old ram setup, and this still happened.
I just installed two new pieces of hardware.
1 a 64 mb video card "NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 AGP 8x 64MB DVI"
2 a sound blaster card "ill have to get exact model"
both are replacing on board versions.
One thing i noticed was no seeming "install" time on startup so im wondering if these are running at peak performance?
I just installed Ubuntu 12.04. Anything seemed well until I installed the Nvidia driver. Then a crash happened.
This situation is untenable. It seems I cannot trust Nvidia, and it seems that I cannot rely on Ubuntu gurus to test 3rd party drivers.
hey guys i could use some help. i have the ubuntu version 10.04 lts, and i cant install any other versions due to an older computer. where can i find some proper drivers for this video card? if not, what video card should i purchase for an asus a7v266-e motherboard? if anybody has any answers for me please post on this thread.
