[ubuntu netbook remix] Tweaking a metapackage's dependencies

http://ubuntuforums.org – Recently, I have installed ubuntu netbook remix and I am pretty satisfied with it. On an eeepc 1005 ha everything seems to be recognised by default. I am not sure how the chipset is handled (which includes the GPU), but the rest is Ok. The CPU switches to a good power management, the sound, webcam, wireless all work out of the box. And it is surprisingly how slim the distro can be kept. Hats off for the developers. Yet, being based on Gnome there are some issues. gedit comes by default. Requesting a removal leads to a threat to remove "ubuntu netbook remix" package. Mono was safely removed, yet fileroller would have the same demands. I want to clean the system even further without breaking future distro upgrades. Is there a way to do that? (Hardware)
