I thought I was going to be a smartypants and change my password to something really easy. Well, I goofed it up. When I tried to log on, I couldn't.
So I accessed the root shell to change password, but encountered " change password authentication token manipulation error".
I have always used the traditional log-in methods to prevent my kids etc. from having administrative privileges. Now, with the kids grown up, I wanted to set-up my Ubuntu 12.04 log me in without a password.
I upgraded 32 bit Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04. When I click on my name at log in it gives me no chance to enter my password, it just says "log in." If I click on "avg," (whatever that is) it says "Password," and allows me to enter mine, which is rejected. I can log in as "Guest," and the installation seems otherwise good.
I would like to change the way "username" and "password" appear in the SLiM login. I have looked at a number of threads, as well as running:gksu geany /etc/slim.confto get a look at the SLiM config file, but I can't find anything with "username" or "password".
