Here's the background:
I have two hard drives, one (SATA) with XP on it and another (EIDE) with an NTFS partition and Ubuntu on an ext2 (I think, or ext3, I can never remember which one's right). I also have an external hard drive (EIDE) that's completely NTFS.
Hello, I am a new ubuntu user. I installed ubuntu OS dual boot with windows 7 for school and my external hard drive which I have connected all the time stops working. When I open My computer in windows 7, I see the local disk that corresponds to my external drive (name changed from MyBook to local disk:F).
I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my new ASUS k55a laptop today, and somehow managed to lose access to all partitions on my computer. I tried boot-repair and reinstalling ubuntu but it's not helping. When I try to turn on my computer after the installation, it says to "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" on a black screen.
I had this drive [a Samsung S2 1.0TB] working well in Ubuntu 11.04 and after installing 11.10 it was still fine for the first week until I got my other flash drive to format.
After formatting it through Disk Utility I was comparing the status of both the flash drive and the Samsung 1TB that was being displayed on the screen of Disk Utility. Both devices were mounted and working properly.
My ubuntu somehow had an unclean shutdown, and i cannot start it up. i tried taking out the hard drive (sata) and putting it in an external casing and tried to access it through a windows vista. it recognized it, but had no drive letter nor could put one and i couldn't access the drive because it didnt show up under "computer".
I have 2 PC's (Vista and Ubuntu) and a Mac. I reformatted my flash drive to hfs+ so that it can read on my Mac. When I reformatted it again back to ntfs, Windows recognizes it in the disk management utility but it will not mount the drive.
I've had Ubuntu as the sole OS on my desktop for a couple years. Updated it to Precise soon after it came out. Today I decided to try dual booting to Windows 8. I bought a new, separate hard drive (SATA) to install Windows on. My Ubuntu installation is on my older PATA disk.
I disconnected the Ubuntu drive completely when installing Windows.
Hi, new to Ubuntu have installed Ubuntu/win 7 dual load 2 days ago all working fine set up ufw controls and surfing away. When I boot Ubuntu my windows D: drive and the various partitions under it are listed under devices and can be accessed. What I want to do is set up one share disk or partition so that I can transfer files between the two but not have all access in both for security.
