[ubuntu] my eth0 is weird

Please help me in removing eth0 avahi from the ifconfig command.

On debian squeeze, I setup a bridge based on eth0.

I have Debian 6.0.

My eth0 interface does not process a legitimate arp reply. When I try to ping a host, I see arp request and reply with tcpdump from the host I try to ping from, but ip neigh says that there is a failure. This has to do something with my bridge configuration, set up by quantum. I experience this when I have the following in /etc/network/interfaces:

auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp

I want to configure my eth0 interface using an external DHCP server (resident in my subnet), so I edited /etc/network/configure with the lines

auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp

but I also want to use avahi autoconfiguration when the DHCP server is down.

So I tried ifup eth0 when the server is down, and after a certain amount of time it fails, but the interface eth0:avahi is correctly configured

I have one computer connected to the internet (eth0) and a bridge (bridge0) as well as a bluetooth device (pan1).

I have debian hosts which are connected through trunk port on 5 different vlans. But this host respond to arp "who-has" requests of all of their differents ip.

Im using an old dell tower as a server and im trying to give it a static IP and when i opened the file "etc/network/interfaces" all i got was "auto lo" settings, no "auto eth0"?
