How can I regain control of a randomly moving cursor which seems to have a mind of its own. It jumps to a new screen position at random resulting in my typing 'inserting' itself where it should not be etc. It will also jump and activate a link. It is not OS specific as it happens on my two computers (Windows 7 and Windows XP).
I recently got a new Lenovo Y50, and I'm running Ubuntu 14.04. On my previous Dell XPS 17, the touchpad had excellent response even when moving my finger slightly -- by moving my finger a very short distance, I was able to move the mouse a pixel at a time, which was very helpful for, e.g., grabbing narrow window borders.
I got a used Sony Vaio E-Series [not my first choice, but what was available] and installed Wubi on it. I started with Ubuntu 10.10 and went on to 11.04 before reinstalling 10.10 in my attempts to fix this bug.
The machine has an ALPS Glidepoint trackpad in front of the keyboard, and it is hard to avoid the trackpad while typing.
The mouse wheel becomes unresponsive if the mouse is moving (turning) simultaneously. In terms of game play... you can't switch weapons while moving the mouse. You must stop moving the mouse in order to be able to switch weapons.
I heard that this was a know bug an easy fix... but that was months ago. I forgot where I heard this.
