http://ubuntuforums.org – Ok so I had this problem that I posted 2 days ago stating that I cant install Ubuntu and to press F6 when I see the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen. I have a Geforce GT 240 and when I boot into Ubuntu the black welcome screen is the first thing I see. When I press F6 it goes through this command prompt sort of thing and then gets all pixelated like before. I never see this keyboard icon but when I try to install ubuntu in virtual box I see it so this is kinda weird if anyone can help that would be great. Thanks! (Hardware)

Hi forums. First post, sorry it had to start out with a problem.

after i'm logging in my ubuntu, this icon was appear when i press keyboard letters, it always appears, and when itu this icon appears, i can't write anything, what is it? whereas, my keyboard didnt support lock keyboard. help my please, i'm using ubuntu 12.10

I recently tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7 on my Inspiron r17 with an Intel i3 processor & nVidea GeForce GT 525 M video card, and immediately ran into issues. This is my first experience with Ubuntu or even Linux but as always I did my home work and tried to solve the issue myself. Truthfully I was over whelmed by the amount of information and just can't seem to fix it.

I have tried just about everything I can think of to get Ubuntu to install on my laptop with no success. I have tried the booting from a cd a flash drive and wbui. nothing seems to work. I tried both 64bit and 32bit versions all 3 ways. I have even tried fedora 16 with no success.

I have burned a Ubuntu disk and am booting from it on my Mac. However, it keeps going to a black screen with a single yellow character on a burgundy background. Usually an S and a weird ñ.

When booting it always displays a little icon in the bottom of the screen which looks like a keyboard, followed by an arrow, followed by a person in a Circe.

So I am new at this, but I am a big fan of the opensource movement and want to give the ole Ubuntu a try.

I have been having some problems.

I have a HP dv6-6135dx.

When I try and run the installiation CD, the screen goes completely black. I press F3 and turn off modeset, then restart. Then it comes to a screen and I try hitting "Try Ubuntu before Install" to see what happens.

I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 for PPC on my old powerbook g4 titanium 400mhz(Powerbook3,2). After booting the ubuntu from cd drive and get "boot" prompt, I press return then I only see black screen changing color from white screen. (something wired on the screen)

I also tried lubuntu 12.04 to the same machine.

hi, looking for some help with my install.

when i boot and it gets past the bios i get a black screen with 2 horizontal lines across instead of the white ubuntu loading symbol. i then hear the noise for the long on prompt. i can then log in blind and get into my install.
