[ubuntu] Monitor garbled display

http://ubuntuforums.org – I just booted into Karmic and all works fine, just that the resolution was 1024x768 (default should be 1440x900, and I use NVIDIA drivers) After launching SuperTuxkart, the whole screen goes blank, and it says 'monitor going to sleep'. After reconnecting the VGA cables the resolution defaults to 800x600 and I can barely see what's on the screen. Rebooting does not work, the HP logo and the BIOS are garbled too, as is GRUB and Windows. Monitor is HP w1907, video driver is Nvidia 7500LE. Any help? Thanks. P.S. It's so garbled almost no text can be seen, so doubt any terminal can fix it. (Hardware)
