Hey Linux lovers,
Got a new laptop and everything so far besides this issue works out of the box. When my laptop goes to sleep and then I attempt to make it resume the screen stays black. There seems to be more than a few bug reports about it.
I've google'd plenty of times and installed a few scrips here and there to no avail. Should install the fglrx ati drivers?
I've got an HP dv7t that's been running a 32-bit Ubuntu build since 8.10. I generally keep a 500GB external (USB2.0) drive mounted at all times. I almost always suspend the laptop at night and resume in the morning.
This is not 100% reproducible, but occurs at least half the time.
I am using Fedora 18 on my laptop (HP EliteBook 2540p) with the MATE window manager. After installing lightdm to replace gdm, I can set my laptop to suspend when the lid is closed. However, when I resume by opening it and pressing the power button, it often wakes only briefly (a few seconds) and then suspends again.
I'll copy the post of "ethanay" from the m1330 thread that seems to be unanswered...
I'm having the same problem:

Suspend works for me mostly, but when I close the lid and leave it suspended for a while, then resume, it automatically suspends a 2nd time.
Ever since the update kernel 3.4 my laptop runs slow until after a suspend/resume.It seems something has gone wrong with the power management settings from powerup, that then get corrected through the suspend/resume cycle. Its now getting rather anoying having to suspend my machine after boot, just to be able to use it.Does any know what the problem might be or what information I should look at to
I am more or less a complete Linux noob, and using 12.04 for the first time. Everything works great, and I am very happy, but there is one exception: suspend won't resume. Every time I suspend my computer, (whether by clicking suspend or by closing the lid) it goes to a black screen (with the backlight on) but there is no way to wake it up.
I have a brand new ASUS EEEPC 1015B (AMD C-50 APU) Netbook on which I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 but when I close the lid or select "Suspend" from the power menu or press the power button it won't resume from Suspend mode...
It will actually suspend ok - just won't resume...
Anyone else using the same laptop with Ubuntu 11.10?
FC18 RC2, with today's updates, here is having problems waking from suspend.
This is a desktop, not a laptop. It appears to go into suspend mode correctly. When I attempt to wake it, the LED's on my monitor indicate the screen is awake, but the screen remains dark except for a flashing cursor in the top left corner. It is not responsive to the keyboard.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on Asus UX31E, everything is now working perfectly fine with the help from Ubuntu wiki.
To make the screen brightness behave right I added the boot parameter acpi_backlight=vendor in /etc/default/grub but after doing that whenever I resume from suspend the backlight on the screen is off, I can see the screen (very dim).
