I have a 5.1 Surround Headset (Speedlink Medusa NX) which is plugged in to my 7.1 (I think) Onboard Sound card. The Headset does have a USB plug, but I think that one is only used for getting electricity.
My computer also has some front jacks which are working perfectly fine. My normal speakers are plugged in here.
I can't see my Headset in the "System Settings -> Sound -> Output" area.
I set up my fathers computer (Ubuntu 11.10) and receiver using Setup_audio_over_HDMI_on_nVidia_GeForce/nForce_controller and the mapping using Pulseaudio worked great when using speaker-test but when we play stereo audio there is sound in front l, front r AND front center but no lfe.
Hi everyone,
Can someone advise me on a certain microphone issue.
I am not very experienced in linux and have this problem with microphone which works fine on Windows.
Hi there,
I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a Acer Aspire One ZG5 (AOA 110), then Skype, and I can't make the microphone work. I tried this method with alsamixer
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne522#Microphone
but it doesn't works. The sound is not recognized by alsamixer, nor by the sound settings.
I can not seem to get the sound from gtk-recordmydekstop to record the sounds right off of my desktop or from my headset.

Hi all, wondering if someone can help me figure this out....
My microphone isn't working regularly.People can not hear me on phone calls. It won't record, video has no sound, no Google Now voice actions, etc...
But... it works on speakerphone (I've google that and comes across many instances of that problem)
It also works if i plug a microusb cord in the port. Thats the strange one.
i did a clean install on ubuntu 12.10. Everything seemed fine at first including sound but after a while it stopped working.
