So, I have been using firestarter for the past 3 years - I've even dropped other distros because it wasn't in the repositories. Today I discover that firestarter is not approved of in ubuntu-land, and ufw/gufw is the approved way to go.
Ok, I say - so what is the difference? Am I getting anything from Firestarter that gufw does not deliver? The answer is yes.
Hello,
I need to stop people using my laptop running Ubuntu 12.10 from going to just a handful of domains.
I installed dansguardian using the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=207008
However, it was a disaster. It filtered most of the websites I use - like Bank of America or Amazon.com - but not any of the Google sites. I never figured out why.
Hello everybody! I have wireless connection between my router and PC. It is the only computer connected. Sometimes Firestarter blocks ports 1900 and 6771 from 192.168.1.100 IP address and sometimes port 68 from 192.168.1.1 IP. I'm a bit confused because 192.168.1.100 is the IP addres i use to open ports in router and 192.168.1.1 is used to access the router settings..
I just got a good deal on an Epson stylus nx415 printer/scanner/copier, and tried to install it. When I plugged it in, I was given a list of drivers to chose from. The closest thing was the epson stylus 410, which I tried, but it did not work. Firing up Xsane after that gave me a message that said "no devices available".
Apparently Firestarter is no longer maintained, and it does not have any options in its interface for handling the connection to a VPN. Right now, my VPN does not work if my Firewall is activated.
I would like to find an alternative GUI firewall manager that will let me make configurations to accomodate my VPN service.
Hi, I have lots of blocked connections in firestarter on 23428 port. Sometimes there was 2 blocked connections per second, then firestarter can use 100% cpu. I was downloading lots of data yesterday via bittorrent, but I don't have any bittorrent client running at the moment. Now, when I'm writing this post, there has been no attack on this port from 15 minutes to now on.
I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognise any bluetooth device, including my Wiimote and cell phone. I have a USB Bluetooth dongle that appears to be working. When I plug it in, I get the bluetooth symbol in my device tray.
I'm new on Ubuntu and running v12.04 with MS Windows 7 on same machine. I've installed Firestarter and it is not working. Installation is fine, but it blocking all access to internet. I've configured the firewall following advisers but it did not help.
So, I've decided to move on and installed GUFW b ut the same problem is happening.
Any help, please?
