[ubuntu] Lost sound card drivers

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi Guys, I am running the latest version Ubuntu and I have installed a new sound card. Its a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio. After the install I rebooted and everything worked perfectly. The problem came when I restarted again after an hour or so. After the second reboot Ubuntu no longer recognised that there is a sound card and there are no sounds generated. I know the hardware is working because I can boot in to Windows and it produces sound through the same device. I have gone through the diagnostic pages for sound, but the steps have not solved the (Hardware)

Hello, I just installed ubuntu 9.10 last night, and I am trying to get sound to work, but it isn't working :(.

Update manager updated a few libs recently (can't remember which ones, but it was definitely not linux headers). Then, after reboot the sound stopped working. The song in rhythmbox would go on playing visually and there is no indication in Sound Preferences that the hardware is not working properly. Yet no sound is coming out of speakers.

I have been working on this issue for several days now and still cannot get my sound card to work. Basically, I have a Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D sound card installed in a PCI slot and I am unable to play any sound through it. Note that I have the on board sound disabled in the BIOS. Also, it is my understanding that this sound card is supported as of kernel 3.5.

Lost sound with 11.10 1 year 14 weeks ago

I installed Ubuntu some days ago. The sound worked perfectly, but today there was a shortcircuit and I lost the sound. I thought it was the sound card, but I started Windows XP and it worked fine. What should I do?

My sound card is an Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97.

I have been trying for a while to get sound working, but have had no luck so far. Under System->Preferences->Sound, I see under the "Hardware" tab:

How I set default sound card 3 years 12 weeks ago

I have 2 sound cards : one is on board and other is Creative sound blaster. I want to play sounds just on Crative. The problem is when I reboot the PC the sound is change,sometime the default sound card is Creative sometime is the onboard card. I want my default sound card to be only Creative. How to do that? Thank you

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop. Now at first glance everything seemed to be Ok. My computer has two sound cards, one is integrated Nvidia soundcard and second one is Creative X-FI. First I plugged my speakers on to my X-Fi card which I downloaded drivers for. How ever I did not manage to bring out any audio out of it.

I have got Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX card on my PCI slot.

When I login to Ubuntu, I get some irritating sound (similar to old TV sound when you do not find any channel). When I play any music or movie, there is no sound.

The same works in Windows.

Please help me in searching drivers for my hardware OR to fix it.

I have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 64-bit with all updates installed, however there is no sound from my Xonar DX sound card. In Hardware Information, the sound card is shown as "Virtuoso 100 (Xonar DX)". How would I get my sound card to work?
