As the title says: when I click Shutdown from the menu it logs off. When I click shutdown from the log-in menu it does nothing. I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10. I can force it to shutdown by the command below, but I don't want to keep typing that whenever I want to shutdown my laptop.
sudo shutdown -h now
So it's probably processes which arn't closing.
I have ubuntu 11.10 64bit, everything worked fine but after i uninstalled the airtime dj app i can't restart or shutdown my pc !! The only way to reach at the screen showing that system is going to shutdown is via terminal but it stucks and never shuts down !
I can't even restart it !
I can suspend my pc fine but can't shutdown or restart it.
I am using ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop (64 bit) for a long time. Few days back there was some issue with power supply and i have to shutdown my desktop using power button in hurry. Now when i am going to shutdown the desktop, the shutdown process starts and ubuntu logo and five dots comes and then it hangs. Can you tell me what went wrong in the situation of mine?
I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop, when I down loaded the updates a few
days later I find it no longer does a complete shutdown, The screen comes up with the prompt for password, the settings icon shows a shutdown symbol , but it is obviously
not. I can force shutdown by holding the power button.
Hi,
I have a problem with my computer occasionally restarting on shutdown.
Sometimes when i shutdown it reboots.
Hi,
Sorry for my english first.
I just install Ubuntu 12.04 on my new laptop Acer Aspire v5-571 and everything works fine, only one problem.. when i want to shutdown my laptop reboot instead of shutdown.
I install laptop mode tools package and now i can shutdown laptop but only when is connected on ac power, when is on battery still reboot instead of shutdown.
I need help with this.
Thanks.
My workstation at work is running 11.10 (lightdm). Shutting down or restarting has always worked up till last week.
My workstation is generally left on through the week and shutdown at weekends.
When I click either Restart or Shutdown, it just logs me out.
Is there any logs I can see that will point to errors?
What might cause this? I haven't got auto login checked (as one answer suggested).
I have a first generation Starling (star1) that I've just updated to 12.04. (All software is up-to-date; the System 76 drivers have been reinstalled.) The 'restart' command that is offered at shutdown causes the computer to begin its shutdown procedure, but then it just stops: the screen goes black but the power remains on. It does not reboot. Pressing the power button shuts down the computer.
With 11.2 and Gnome occasionally it will not shutdown properly. I press the shutdown button and then Gnome starts the shutdown sequence. It terminates the desktop and falls back to GDM, which in it self is normal. However it then just stops, I can't click anything and the system is not responding either. When I press the physical button on my PC I get the menu of shutdown again.
