[ubuntu] Login Screen Cycles - Won't Accept Password

http://ubuntuforums.org – I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen. I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode. I typed in "startx" to see what would happen. I received several error messages that pointed to the "xkeyboard-config" file being corrupt. That would seem to confirm why I could not use the login screen to login, but could login from the terminal mo (Hardware)

This question is usually responded to with "Liveuser does not need a password".

Well believe it or not in some configuration it is not possible to go passed the login screen of Fedora 11 or 12 KDE.

If you just hit enter which should work, it goes black with a blue flasy thing and then back to the login screen.

I have the same issue as others (see Login returns to login screen [closed]).

When I arrived at the login screen, I enter my password, the screen goes black for one second, displaying some text, and then it returns me to a fresh login screen.

I can go to a console alt+f1 and login into my account on the command line.

It is a fairly fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, plenty of room left on th

I'm having a weird issue. When I put my password using my account (ramiz) on the login screen of GUI, a blink of screen and it take me back to the login screen. I tried with Guest user and it is logging me in. I also tried Ctrl+ATL+F1 to switch to command mode and try to login there with sudo -s.

I've got Fedora 18 with Gnome.

When I click a user name on the login screen, the other ones disappear but the password prompt never shows up. It stays this way for a few seconds, then comes back to the original state with the list of users.

I have written an article about how to customize the Ubuntu login screen. After you edit the login screen, you may want to share your work on blogs and forums. However, you simply cannot just press the print-screen button to take screenshot of the login screen in Ubuntu. To do so, you can use a workaround command to preview the login screen and take screenshot of it.

If I try to login using one of my user accounts it directs me back to the login screen, which is followed by a black screen.

I am sure the password I enter is correct because if the password is wrong it prompts "Invalid Password".

On the other hand I am able to login using a root or guest account.

I've just installed 11.10, and am using Gnome shell.
