I am using Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 with a Cinnamon desktop.
Today, out of the sudden, I was kicked from desktop to login screen. I entered my password and noticed that my window decorations disappeared. I ran:
sudo aptitude reinstall cinnamon
After that I wasn't even able to login (black screen and back to login screen).
Dear Sir/Madam,

I have written an article about how to customize the Ubuntu login screen. After you edit the login screen, you may want to share your work on blogs and forums. However, you simply cannot just press the print-screen button to take screenshot of the login screen in Ubuntu. To do so, you can use a workaround command to preview the login screen and take screenshot of it.
I'm new to Ubuntu and was messing around with trying to get Plasma widgets on my gnome desktop. Somehow installing the plasma gtk (terminology?) changed my login screen to a KDE looking one and I can't figure out how to change it back.
I have auto login enabled, and I just upgraded to 11.04. When I boot, I get a message saying that I don't have the hardware required to run Unity, so I should choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen. The problem is that auto login bypasses the login screen, and I can't disable auto login via the normal route since I can't start xwindows.
The login and Unity Greeter is working. However, if I try to log-in - in a matter of seconds, it would return to the login screen.
This happened when I tried to install a package and I restarted my computer.
I also tried to uninstall, install, re-install, upgrade the lightdm, gdm and gnome.
I installed/reinstalled Ubuntu Desktop/Cinnamon/Gnome3 as well, to try and see if it would work.
I own two laptops, and upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 on both of them. On one of them, when I get to the login screen, I see a nice interface with the same background image as the desktop, and a nice transparent widget that asks me to choose a username to login.
However, on the other laptop, the b/g image is just gray and the login screen doesn't look as nice. The widget seems different too.
My login screen has suddenly change and I have a little preference for the Default one.
Here's my login screen
Here's how (I think) it's supposed to look like
I know it's useless but I like my thing beautiful =)
Hoo and btw, if anyone has tips to change splash screen, scroll bar and ubuntu sound for Mac OSX. I'd like some link to a tutorial :)
Thank.
