[ubuntu] Login Help: Can't login

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello I have just installed Ubuntu 11.10 DVD ISO (the latest stable version I believe) and boot from by USB stick. It has been working OK (except for odd crashes - such as "gnome-control-panel" has crashed on the user account screen). I booted up this morning, and I was presented with a login screen, with a box saying "Other...". I am not really sure what to do here, as I haven't setup a username or a password. If I try and enter a blank password, I get a red error message saying the the password is wrong. I have tried this also with the username "ubuntu&qu (Hardware)

I'm trying to connect to my Fedora 18 box from a Windows 8 box. I enter my username and password in the xrdp login box and get a blank screen except for a "connection log" GUI which says, "Connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350" If I click on the "OK" in this box, I get bounced back to the xrdp login.

I am trying to build and expect script to log into multiple aix boxes and change password.

I've got Fedora 18 with Gnome.

When I click a user name on the login screen, the other ones disappear but the password prompt never shows up. It stays this way for a few seconds, then comes back to the original state with the list of users.

Hello, I have a liveUSB with ubuntu 11.10 on it. I have there my own account "Han" with a password, and there's also a basic account called "ubuntu". I have set a password there too, by some passwd command in terminal. The problem is, when I boot up the computer, It automatically logs in ubuntu account, without asking for password.

I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.

I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.

I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.

I am trying to install Nvidia graphics display drivers but it says I must disable X Server first.

I have read that I need to press CRTL+ALT+F(1-6) to get into a TYY terminal.

I am not able to login when it asks me to. It says "[hostname] login:" then I can my user name here...

What is the username/password combo for the LiveCD? I've booted from HD mounted squashfs so isolinux configs do not apply.

i have windows 7 username "lolax" and no password... i installed ubuntu 12.10 in d drive using wubi...(inside windows which can be uninstalled from control panel) when installing it asks username and password, i entered "tanmay" as username and some password...
