I'm hoping someone here could help me with the installation problem I'm having, namely Ubuntu doesn't detect my hard drives. I've tried installing from a disc and using wubi; neither have worked. Drives are detected just fine in Windows 7.
I searched around to see if any of my hardware is incompatible, but didn't find anything.
I have tried to install Ubuntu version 10, 11 and 12 64 bit on my Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard using live CD and placing the DVD in the drive and starting the machine. When I go to install Ubuntu I get a dark screen and no text at all. When I go with Live CD I reboot and then I go right into the install from the boot menu and still get darkness. Nothing appears.
I have a HP compaq 8200 Elite CMT PC with an i7 processor and 16GB of ram. There are two hardisks on the pc one of which is 500GB and the other one is 1TB. I have a licensed copy of windows 32 bit on the 500GB which I cannot touch and I need to install a 64 bit ubuntu on the 1TB partition.
Hi all!
I am totally new to forums and Ubuntu, so please forgive any indiscretions!
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on an old P4 for my mother in law. The hard drive crashed. I recovered the installation to a new 500GB hdd using a Redo Backup image I had. It would not boot, so I fixed the booting with Boot Repair by booting from an Ubuntu CD. Now it boots - yay!
I then updated the Grub to Grub 2.00.
Here's my case. I have 500GB HDD with 5 Partitions with XP, Windows7 and Windows8 RP in the first three.
As per one of the instruction I've seen in this forum, I did shrink my 4th Partition to create a 30GB unallocated free space to install Ubuntu 12.04.
I am running a dualboot of windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. My internet speed is considerably faster in windows. My system specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad @2.4GHz
RAM: Nvidia SLI 4g (2x2g)
SSD: WEstern Digital 500gb
I am connecting to my internet through an old WiFi dongle connected a usb extension cord. What could I do to help increase my speeds?
So when ever I boot up, I get the boot logo at a pretty low resolution, and when the login screen apears I get a balck screen and my TV says "mode not suported" so I hit Ctrl+Alt+(-) or (+) and the login screen pops up, everything works fine, my nvidia driver is installed and didnt do that before installing driver....so how do i fix that

Hello people
I like so much the fedora, I`m using it now on my USB pen drive and I loving it:dance:
But... after the installation on my HD, I select to boot Fedora, then the screen became black and I can`t do anything. I can onlye see a blurry on the top of my monitor and I can see a little of my mouse pointer on the top of screen and I can move it.
I'm looking at getting an external hard drive for my computer, to put the Ubuntu OS on it. I understand these will handle the operating system perfectly well.
