In my Ubuntu 11.10 VPS, Before I run the jar file:

Run a jar file that limited to maximum of 32M memory:
java -Xms8m -Xmx32m -jar ./my.jar

we have a server with 8GB, running mysql, 4 java applications and a small postgres db.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with the below kernel version

The memory status shows that the cache is using the maximum share of the RAM.
