Greetings,
I am having trouble seeing any desktop after clean install. I'm not an expert (more of a noob than anything), but I've tried doing my reading and work on this as best I could. I'm hoping someone out there can help.
Hello,
I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 32bit on my laptop. I use a 2nd monitor connected to my laptop and after installing & updating Ubuntu for the first time, I went to display settings to set the monitor as the main display and deactivated the laptop screen display.
I have a custom built gaming computer with 2 monitors, after using Ubuntu on my laptop since 8.04 on up to 12.04 I decided to install the same 12.04 on my desktop which usually runs Windows.
The main problem I'm having now is it only detects 1 monitor and treats it like a laptop monitor.
I got this silly idea in my head that I wanted to use two monitors, both displaying different things, at the same time. It doesn't work on the computer I usually use, either in Ubuntu or Windows (the computer dual boots). I tried it on my other computer, which I don't use because the hard drive is dead, using an 8.10 live USB. It worked.
Hey,
I just installed Ubuntu for the first time on my desktop (12.04) and am having some issues with my monitors. As it's probably important, i'll mention that i'm running an Asus GeForge GTX 670.
First problem is with my first monitor. It is detecting it as "Laptop" and allowing only two possible resolutions - 800 x 600 & 1024 x 768.
I have a laptop and it's being a nightmare to properly set up an external monitor I use.
I had ubuntu 11.10 installed through wubi and it worked as I wanted, I started the laptop with the lid closed and the image automatically went to the monitor.
Later I decided to format my pc and used the opportunity to properly install ubuntu on a separate partition, as i might need more than the 30Gb that wu
All works fine until I move the mouse cursor on the monitor to either the bottom of the screen or to the right of the screen. It then disappears from the monitor and re-appears onto my laptop screen. There is no way I can then get control back onto the monitor screen.
Hi,
I just hooked up an HP S1931a/S2031 monitor to my Acer laptop that's running Ubuntu 11.1. I get a display on the monitor and it seems pretty good, but I can't get the install cd to boot. Any idea what I can do to get the cd to run? And do I really need to do that in any case? Thanks for your thoughts.

When Ubuntu boots, the second monitor mirrors my other monitor, but when the login screen pops up, the monitor doesn't get any signal from my computer. When I go to monitor setup, it is not detected. If I unplug my first monitor, the second works fin with Ubuntu. When I tried 11.10 on a flash drive, it worked fine as a dual monitor. The default seems to be VGA over the DVI connection. Help?
