[ubuntu] Launch Remote Desktop from SSH

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, guys, I have a home server with Ubuntu 9.10 installed. I connect to it by VNC. I have manage there System->Preferences->Remote Desktop service for that. When this service is working I see its icon on the top panel. From time to time I cannot connect by VNC. I notice that I can't see icon on the panel for some unknown reason. Why this service is quitting automatically? Can I launch it manually by SSH connection to that server? I found in Web next solution: sudo gconftool-2 -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/remote_access/enabled true but it doesn't help for me. Thanks. (HowTos)

I am not sure where the problems lies, but I have been trying to use remote desktop (using KRDC) to work on my friends computer with Ubuntu 9.10 on it. I have everything set up right, but it is horribly inconsistent. I have set up port forwarding on her router, but though that helped at one time, it doesn't anymore.

I have installed lubuntu-desktop on top of ubuntu, and I have configured vino-preferences; however, there's no vnc server listening, somehow the service is not starting. How can I started? Also, I installed xrdp, and when I connect to it, the gnome desktop comes up at the remote machine... why is that?
