http://ubuntuforums.org – The new version of ubuntu 12.04 is out and i'm giving it a try. I tried the 11.10 version before but had to stop using it cause it was not installing my graphic card. I am now having the same problem with 12.04. when i go into system settings, and then to details the graphic option is display driver: unknown, experience fallback. I'm assuming the driver is not install so how can i fix this problem. (Hardware)

Im new to Ubuntu system and I have a problem with graphic card driver installation.

I have ATI Radeon 9600 card (I know its old :) ) and I downloaded ATI Catalyst drivers: ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run

I run it in Terminal where I got this error message:

so i fix it with great effort (via recovery mode) , after that i used "Additionals Drivers" in "system setting" to install ati driver !

With 11.10 I used to download the latest ati driver for my duel graphics Radeon card problem. With 12.04 the graphics problem is resolved it seems. But the Ubuntu driver on my Laptop is burning. So I wanted to install the ati driver to see if it would be better. I have always had trouble with my graphic on my dell dimension 4700. I change the screen resolution and that fix most of my problems but when I go into the details app on ubuntu it says for graphic unknown and for drivers unknown and experience standard. The status texts are always messed up, but now videos are messed up for youtube the sound keeps going but the picture freezes.

It's 2 year I've started using ubuntu. In ubutnu 10.04 until ubuntu 11.10 anything was Ok with my Graphic card, But when I migrate to ubuntu 12.04 I had a corruption in my graphic card and I paid expert to repair it. Hi friends, I own a Dell Inspiron 14 inch laptop with 1GB ATI Radeon 5xxx series graphic card.

I want to buy a new laptop and I have certain queries regarding graphic cards. I don't play games(puzzles only) and don't do video editing.

I have agp radeon HD 3450 graphic card. I've tried using proprietary driver but i couldn't do a bunch of stuff, movies stuck, etc.. Anyway now i use open source driver from ubuntu repositories, the one that is installed with system.

My problem is this. Resoluton of the screen that best fits me is 1152x644. But in monitor properties i can't set this resolition. Only 1024x768 and 1280x1024.
