I just got my Dell Vostro 2520 with Ubuntu preloaded. I know nothing about operating systems. I wanted to try something different. Now my husband is pissed. I forgot my password...or did I set one up? Anyway, I was trying to reset it. I ended up with a black screen like dos. It had a place to set system, admin, and hdd passwords. I did this but I can't get out of this black screen hell.
Dear brothers in Ubuntu,
I ins
talled Ubuntu 12.04 (Unity) in my PC in which I also have XP Evo, but in re-starting I get a black screen with a warning of GNU Grub version..., saying:
"Minimal BASH-like editing line supported". If I click Tab, it then gives me a bunch of command lines. I don't know what to do. Could anyone, please, help me out so I can get Grub selection page?
I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 to run alongside windows, and when I start the computer up, I get the "Please select operating system" screen, and I choose Ubuntu.
When I turn on my computer (Acer Aspire 3820T), as the title says, I only get a black screen unless I hold SHIFT and go through GRUB and select the topmost option in Advanced options for Ubuntu. If I select Ubuntu in GRUB I get the same black screen. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi there
I recently installed ubuntu using wubi. Everything was going fine until I edited my /etc/default/grub file by adding radeon.audio=1 to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX variable because my HDMI sound wasn't working.
When I unplugged the HDMI cable the screen went black and stayed like that. I then restarted my laptop and attempted to boot into ubuntu without success.
I am using dual boot windows7/Ubuntu 12 and it has been working just fine in the past.
After my last reboot when I select Ubuntu it goes to a black screen that shows:
GNU GRUB Version 2.00-7 Ubuntu 11
Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions.
Hi, I would like to run Ubuntu just from the CD but that doesn't seem to work. I have a HP Computer with Windows 7 currently, I have downloaded and burned Ubuntu on a CD and rebooted. Startup loads the ubuntu GNU GRUB system, but it is different than what it was on my old computer.
Hey,
